Once there was a rich man. He lived in a beautiful house full of fine furniture. There were wonderful pictures on the walls and everyone marveled at how great his house was.
Page 2
One day he saw a lovely nightingale. It was a beautiful bird. It flew in and out of the rich man’s house, ducking and diving and singing.
Page 3
Every day the rich man watched the beautiful bird and listened to it sing. The bird’s singing was so lovely. Everything, even the trees and animals, stopped to hear its beautiful voice.
Page 4
The rich man wanted the bird. He wanted to put it in a cage. He waited and waited. When he had a chance, he caught the bird in his hands and took it to the cage.
Page 5
Suddenly the nightingale spoke to him. “Let me go,” it said, “and I will give you some good advice that may help you one day.”
Page 6
The rich man agreed and he let the nightingale go free. The nightingale said, “First, never be sorry for something that can never be brought back. And second, don't believe everyone.”
Page 7
The rich man listened carefully to the nightingale’s words then he opened the window to let the nightingale fly out.
Page 8
“Too bad you let me go,” said the nightingale. “I have a big diamond beneath my wing. “Oh no!” cried out the rich man, trying to catch the nightingale again.
Page 9
“You fool!” said the nightingale. And continued, “If I have a big diamond under my wing, I cannot fly. I just lied to you. You are sorry for something that cannot be brought back and you believed my lie.”
