Long ago, there was an old man. He liked to read stories about knights. He read many stories over the years. One morning, he woke up and he thought he really was a knight!
Page 2
The old man found some armor in his house. He put on the armor, and he called himself Don Quixote. He saw a farmer’s daughter, and he thought she was a princess named Dulcinea.
Page 3
Don Quixote asked a farmer named Sancho to join him. Sancho said no. Then, Don Quixote said, “I will give you an island if you join me.” Greedy Sancho smiled and said, “OK!”
Page 4
Don Quixote said, “There is a castle.” Sancho said, “It is not a castle, it is an inn.” Don Quixote thought Sancho was silly because he did not know the difference between a castle and an inn.
Page 5
Don Quixote thought the innkeeper was a king. He bowed to the king and said, “Please make me your knight.” The innkeeper held up a long spoon and said, “You are now a knight!”

The next day, Don Quixote and Sancho went looking for adventure. Don Quixote said, “Look! There are evil giants!” Sancho said, “No, they are not. They are just windmills.”
Page 7
Don Quixote charged at the giants on his horse. But when he attacked, he was knocked off of his horse. Poor Don Quixote had lost the battle with the giants.

Later, Don Quixote said, “Look at the evil wizards! That princess is their hostage!” But Sancho said, “They are just priests traveling with a lady.” Don Quixote attacked the evil wizards.
Page 9
Don Quixote and the wizards fought for a few minutes. Soon, the princess told the wizards that they must surrender. Then, she thanked Don Quixote. This time, he had won!

Don Quixote sent Sancho to find Dulcinea. But because Sancho did not know what she looked like, he could not find her. So, he brought back three beggar women.
Page 11
Don Quixote said to Sancho, “None of these women is Dulcinea.” But Sancho tricked Don Quixote. He said, “This is Dulcinea and her maids. They were enchanted by a wizard!”
Page 12
The women were angry at Sancho. They said, “The only way to break the spell is if Sancho hits himself on the head 3000 times.” Poor Sancho had to hit himself on the head 3000 times!

Don Quixote met a man fishing in a lake. He thought the man was an evil knight. Don Quixote challenged him! The man said, “If I win, you must give up being a knight for one year.”
Page 14
The two men fought, but Don Quixote lost. He had to give up being a knight. So, Don Quixote returned home, and he put away his armor.
Page 15
Soon, the old man realized that he had read too many books about knights. He gave all of his books away. And then, he lived happily and peacefully ever after.
