Once upon a time, there was a woman with a very lazy daughter. One day, while the mother was yelling at her daughter, a prince saw her.

The prince asked, “Why are you yelling at this girl? The mother lied. She said, “My daughter is useless! She can only spin straw into gold.”
Page 3
The prince was greedy. He said to the mother, “I will help you. I will marry her. And I will give you 100 silver coins because you do not like gold.”

The prince locked the girl in a room with a spinning wheel. He said, “If you can spin gold, I will marry you. If you cannot, I will kill you. You have three days.”

The girl cried because she could not really spin gold. Then, a strange man appeared. He said, “I can spin the gold. But afterwards, you must guess my name.”
Page 6
On the first two days, the strange man spun the gold. On the second night, he said, “You must guess my name tomorrow!” The girl was worried.

That night, the girl could not eat her dinner. She was too worried. So she gave her food to a poor old man.

The old man said, “I know why you are worried. And because you gave food to me, I will help you. The strange man’s name is Kinkach Martinko.”

The next day, the strange man returned. The girl said, “Your name is Kinkach Martinko!” The strange man got angry, and he jumped out the window.

When the prince returned that night, he saw all of the gold. He was very happy, and he married the girl. Then, they lived happily ever after.
