Long ago, there was a young maid. She was walking to the market. She was carrying a pot of milk that she was going to sell.

The maid was happily thinking of her future. She said, “When I sell this milk, I will be able to buy a hen.”

Then, the maid thought, “When I have the hen, it will lay eggs. Soon I will have a lot of chickens.”

The maid thought about her chickens. She thought, “I can sell the chickens and buy a pig!”

The maid smiled because she could imagine herself getting richer. She thought, “The pig will get fatter and fatter. Then, I can sell it to buy a pony.”

The maid began to walk more lightly. A tiny bit of milk spilled from her pot. The maid did not notice; she kept walking, daydreaming, and smiling.
