Long, long ago, in a small town, there lived a shoe maker. The shoe maker worked very hard every day, but nobody bought his shoes.

The shoe maker was very poor. But he was happy, and he always tried very hard. He wanted his shoes to be the very best in the world!

One night, the shoe maker looked around his shop. He saw that he had only one small piece of leather left. He said, “With this leather, I can only make one pair of shoes.”

The shoe maker sat down, and he cut out the leather. He said, “I will cut the leather tonight, and tomorrow, I will make the shoes.” Then, he went to sleep.

The next morning, he saw something wonderful! On his work table, there was a pair of beautiful shoes! The shoe maker did not know where they came from.

A rich man came into the store. He saw the shoes that the shoe maker was holding. He said, “Those are beautiful shoes! Please sell them to me.”

The shoe maker sold the shoes to the rich man. He thought about what he should do with the money. He decided to buy leather to make more shoes.

That day, the shoe maker bought enough leather to make four pairs of shoes. That night, he cut out the leather. Then, the shoe maker went to sleep.

The next morning, the shoe maker saw four beautiful pairs of shoes. He sold the shoes, and he made a lot of money! With the money, he bought a lot of leather.

That night before he went to sleep, he cut out the leather again. He said to his wife, “Let’s go to the workshop. I want to see who is making these shoes.

The shoe maker and his wife quietly went to the workshop. There, they waited.

That night, the shoe maker and his wife saw a wonderful thing! They saw two tiny elves. The elves came, and they made beautiful shoes.

The shoe maker’s wife said, “Those little elves have no clothes. I want to make tiny clothes for them.” So, the shoe maker bought cloth for his wife.

The next day, the shoe maker’s wife made tiny clothes for the elves. She worked very hard, and she made pretty clothes. And the shoe maker made tiny leather shoes.
