Once upon a time, a man lived in Baghdad. He had been very wealthy, but he had had bad luck for many years. Now, he was very poor.

One night, he had a dream. In the dream, a woman came to him. The woman said, “You must go to Cairo. Your fortune is there.”

The man took everything that he had; he did not have much. Then, he began the long trip from Baghdad to Cairo.

When the man reached Cairo, it was late and very dark. The man begged for shelter in a mosque because he could not afford to stay at an inn.

While the man was sleeping, three thieves ran into the mosque. They were running from the police!
Page 6
The thieves dropped the stolen goods next to the man, and they ran away. The thieves escaped, but the police thought the man was one of the thieves!

The man was arrested! He was taken to jail, and there he had to stay until the next morning. Then, the chief of police came to talk to him.
