Once upon a time, there was a wood-cutter. One day, when he was cutting wood, a poor old man came to him. The old man said, “May I have some food?”

The wood-cutter only had three small pieces of bread. He gave one to the old man. The old man ate the bread quickly.

The old man said, “You are very kind. But I am still hungry. May I have another piece of bread?” The wood-cutter gave another piece of bread to the old man.

Then, the old man said, “I have very far to walk. May I have one more piece of bread to eat during my trip?” Again, the wood-cutter gave the man his bread.

The old man said, “You are very kind. You have given all of your bread to me. Now, I will give three gifts to you.”

The old man gave the wood-cutter a tablecloth. He said, “When you are hungry, open this tablecloth. There will be food.”

The old man gave the wood-cutter a lamb. He said, “When you brush the lamb’s wool, you will have gold.”

Then, the old man gave the wood-cutter a club. He said, “If someone tries to take your gifts, this club will help you.” The wood-cutter said, “Thank you.”

As he was going home, he he ran into 20 robbers. They tried to take the gifts, but the club knocked them all on their heads.

The man went home. He shared his gifts with his wife and his friends. He also helped people whenever he could. He was a very kind man.
