Once there was a soldier. He was very brave, and he became famous during the wars. But when the wars were over, he did not know what to do. His only skill was fighting.

The soldier went into the forest. He was very sad. He did not know what to do. Then, a strange little man appeared.
Page 3
The little man said, “I know why you are sad. You are a soldier, but there is no war. You do not know how to live.” Then, the little man said, “I will give you all the money that you want.”

The soldier knew that the little man was a magical dwarf. And dwarves can be very tricky. The soldier asked the dwarf, “What must I do?”

The dwarf said to the soldier, “You must live for seven years without a bath. You must not cut your hair. You must not shave. And you must wear this bearskin for the whole time.”
Page 6
The soldier said to the dwarf, “I can do that. But what if I fail?” The dwarf said, “If you fail, I will turn you into a real bear. You will be an animal for the rest of your life.”

The soldier accepted the challenge from the dwarf. He wore the bearskin, and he never took a bath or cut his hair. Soon, he became very dirty and ugly. But he always had a lot of money.
