Cat and Fox
Page 1
One day, Cat was walking in the forest. She saw Fox walking toward her. Cat did not want to talk to Fox because Fox always bragged about his cleverness.
Page 2
Fox said hello to Cat, and then Fox said, “Do you know why it is good to be me? It is because I know 100 tricks to escape danger. I am very clever.”
Page 3
Cat said, “You are indeed clever, Fox. I only know one trick. If danger comes my way, I will run up the nearest tree.”
Page 4
Suddenly, Cat and Fox heard a hunter’s horn. Then, they heard the sound of barking hounds.
Page 5
Cat used her one trick. She ran up the nearest tree. But Fox had so many tricks that he could not decide what to do.
Page 6
The sound of the hunt came closer. Fox hid behind a log, but then he changed his mind. He crawled into the log. Then, he changed his mind again.
Page 7
Then, the hounds began to appear. They chased Fox all around the trees. Fox tried trick after trick, but the hounds never stopped chasing him.
Page 8
Cat called down from the tree. She said, “Use your tricks, Fox!” And Fox cried back, “I am using my tricks, but the hounds keep chasing me!”
Page 9
Finally, the hounds surrounded Fox. He had no more tricks, and no place safe to go. Then, the hunters came in on their big horses, and they caught Fox.
Page 10
As the hunters were taking Fox away, he learned an important lesson: having only one good plan is better than having 100 bad plans.
