Once upon a time, there was a boy named Kraljevitch Marko, He was a shepherd, but he was very small and weak. He could not take care of himself.

The other shepherd boys used to beat up Kraljevitch Marko. They would make him watch their sheep, and make him take care of their pigs.

One morning while he was watching his sheep, another boy came. He beat up Kraljevitch Marko. He said, “You must feed my pigs today, too!”

Kraljevitch Marko ran away from the other boy. He ran and hid in the forest. He thought, “If I go back there, I will be beat up a lot today. If I stay here, I will be safe.”

Kraljevitch Marko walked deeper into the forest. There, he saw a baby girl lying on the ground. The hot sun was shining on her, but her mother was not there.

Kraljevitch Marko took some tree branches. He made a cover for the baby so that she could stay cool. Then, Kraljevitch Marko went and sat on a giant stone to think.

Soon, the baby’s mother returned. She was very happy to see the branches covering the baby. She said to Kraljevitch Marko, “I will give you anything for helping my baby.”
