Long ago, there were a king and a queen. They were married for many years, but they did not have any children.

One day, they met a fairy. The fairy said they could have one wish. They said, “We want a child. We do not care if it is a boy, or a girl, or even a hedgehog!”

The next year, the king and queen had a baby. But because fairies can be tricky, their child was a real hedgehog! Still, they loved him; he was their prince.

Their kingdom was very wealthy. So, when it was time for the prince to be married, many other kings offered their princesses as possible brides for him.
