One winter day, a man was walking by a lake. Some of the lake was covered with ice.

Suddenly, a carp jumped out of the water. The man saw him jump out of the water again and again. The man wondered why the carp was jumping.
Page 3
The man looked at the ice. Near where the carp was jumping, there was a small cracker. The carp wanted the cracker.

The carp jumped again. Then, he tried to break the ice under the cracker.
Page 5
The carp cut himself on the ice. And he hurt his head when he hit the ice. But he never stopped trying.

Sometimes, the ice would break a little bit. Then, the carp would be closer to the cracker.

The man saw blood in the water. He thought the carp was dead because he did not jump for a few minutes. But then, the carp jumped again!
