John took David to the dining room. There was a big table with a lot of food on it. John said, “My daughter cooked all of this food today. My wife did not help her.” David was surprised.

Everybody ate dinner together. Then, John took David to the work room. There was a basket full of dirty clothes. John said, “My daughter washes all of these clothes every day.”

Suddenly, there was a crash! Someone dropped a big pot in the kitchen. John said to David, “I will go to see if they need help.”

David found a closet key in the work room. He hid the key at the bottom of the dirty clothes. Then, he went into the dining room.

John came out of the kitchen with his wife and his daughter. Then, David said, “It is getting late. I must go home. Thank you for the wonderful dinner.”

One week later, David met John again. David asked, “How are you, John?” And John said, “I am fine. But I am worried. I have lost the key to my closet. I cannot get to my clothes!”

David went to John’s house, and he went into the work room. He found the closet key under the dirty clothes. He said to John, “I put the key here.”

David said to John, “If your daughter had done the laundry, she would have found it. Now, I know that you lied to me. And I know that your daughter is not hard-working.”
