Once upon a time, a frog was hopping quickly through the forest. When he stopped to rest beside a log, he saw a snail.

The frog laughed at the snail. He said, “Look at how slow you are! I can hop along much faster than you.”

The snail said to the frog, “If you are so fast, let’s have a race. The first one to reach the city’s center is the winner. The loser has to be the winner’s servant for one year.”

The frog was happy to accept this challenge. He would enjoy having a servant for a whole year! So, the frog and the snail lined up. A little bee said “Go!” And the race began!

The frog hopped as quickly as he could. He hopped over stones. He hopped through bushes. He hopped around trees. He was going very fast!

The snail crawled along, as slowly as ever. She stopped to look at the pretty flowers. She swam in a lake. She enjoyed a pleasant, peaceful day.

While the snail was still swimming in the lake, the quick frog reached the gates of the city! He thought, “Ha! I am close to the city’s center. That snail cannot win, now!”
