Long ago, there was a king. He often wondered if he was a good king. He wondered if he was loved by his people.

One day, a weaver came to his palace. The weaver said, “I can make a turban more beautiful than any other. But only a good king and his people can see it.”
Page 3
The king gave the weaver a lot of money. And he gave the weaver expensive tools and a place to work. And the weaver ate at the king’s palace every night.

The weaver spent many days in his work place. The days became weeks. And the weeks became months.

As time went by, the king began asking the weaver about the turban. He asked, “When will my turban be ready?” The weaver always answered, “Soon.”

Finally, the weaver finished his work. He bought a beautiful box for the turban. And he wrapped the box with beautiful paper.

The weaver took the box to the king. The king opened the box, but he was surprised. The box appeared to be empty. The king asked, “Where is the turban?”

The weaver said, “Remember what I said, my king. Only a good king and his people can see the turban.”

The king was worried because he did not see anything. But he pretended to see the turban. He pretended to pick it up out of the box. He said, “It is beautiful!”

Everybody pretended to see the turban. The people said, “Your turban is beautiful!” But the weaver went away, and nobody ever saw him again.
