The King's Ring
Page 1
Once long ago, a King lost a golden ring. He could not find it and he started searching for a Magician to find the lost ring.

A poor man heard the King’s announcement. He went to the King, and he said, “I am a Magician. I will find your ring.”

The King did not believe the man because he looked very poor. But the King said, “I will give you a chance. You can study and do your magic in my castle.”

In the man’s room, there was a big book, a pen, and some paper. The poor man really could not read or write, but he pretended. Every day, he turned the book’s pages, and he scribbled.

A Servant brought food and water to the man every day. Whenever the Servant came into the room, the man stared at him. The man’s stare made the Servant nervous.

In the following days, the Servant got more nervous! That is how the man found the thief. He said to the Servant, “I know that you took the King’s ring.”

The Servant said, “You are a great Magician! Yes, I stole the King’s ring. Please do not turn me into a frog!” The man laughed, and he said, “I have a secret, too.”

The man said, “I am not a Magician.” Then, he whispered to the Servant. “Now, we can trick the King, and we can share the reward. Tonight, make that chicken eat the King’s ring.”

The next day, the man said to the King, “I have used my magic. I know where your ring is.” Then, the man pointed at the chicken. “That chicken ate your ring!”

The King called his Butcher, and they found King’s ring inside. So, the King gave the man a big bag of gold. Later, the man gave half of the gold to the Servant.
