Once upon a time, there was a Mother rat and a Father rat. They had a beautiful Daughter. Mother said, “Our Daughter is so beautiful. She must marry the Sun.” Father said to the Sun, “You may marry our daughter because you are very powerful.” But the Sun said, “Thank you, but the Cloud is stronger. He can hide my brightness and warmth.”

Father said to the Cloud, “You may marry our daughter.” But the Cloud said, “Thank you, the the Wind is stronger. He can blow me into pieces.” Father said to the Wind, “You may marry our daughter.” But the Wind said, “Thank you, but the Mountain is stronger. I cannot move him from his spot.”

Father said to the Mountain, “You may marry our daughter.” But the Mountain said, “Thank you, but I am not the strongest. I will not be the perfect husband for your daughter.” Mother said to the Mountain, “But you are tall, and you are strong. Who is stronger than you?”

The Mountain said, “I am tall, and I am strong. But look at my foot. Do you see the holes?” The rats looked at the bottom of the Mountain. They saw many holes.” Father asked, “What are these holes?” The Mountain said, “These holes are dug by rats. I am strong, but I cannot stop the rats. They are stronger than me.”

Just then, a handsome, strong Boy rat came out of a hole in the Mountain. When he saw the Daughter, he fell in love with her. The Daughter fell in love, too. The Daughter and the Boy were married, and everyone was happy. Mother and Father learned that everybody is strong in their own way, even when they are small.
