Long ago, a blacksmith was working in his shop. Suddenly, a man appeared. The man said to the blacksmith, “I need your help. But it is a secret.”

The blacksmith promised to help the man. And the blacksmith promised to keep the secret. The man showed the blacksmith a bar of gold.
Page 3
The man said, “Please make this into a horseshoe.” The blacksmith made a golden horseshoe. Then, the man said, “Come with me.”

The man took the blacksmith to a cave. Inside the cave, there were many knights. They were wearing their armor, but they were all sleeping.

There were many horses in the cave too. And then, the blacksmith saw a sleeping king!

The man said to the blacksmith, “That is King Boleslaw. Someday, when Poland is in great trouble, the king and his knights will wake up and fight.”

Then, the man showed the blacksmith the king’s horse. The king’s horse had a broken horseshoe.

The blacksmith took the broken horseshoe off of the king’s horse. Then, he put the golden horseshoe on the hoof.

The man and the blacksmith went back to the town. The man gave the blacksmith a bag of gold. The man said, “Remember. This is a secret.”

But the blacksmith told his wife the story. Then, she told her friends about the secret. Soon, everyone knew the story. And the bag of gold turned into a bag of sand. We should never reveal secrets.
