The Story of Rama
Page 1
Once upon a time, there was a king named Dasaratha. He was getting old, so he decided to retire. He said to his wife, “I will let my son, Rama, be king.”
Page 2
Dasaratha’s wife did not want Rama to be king. Her favorite son was Bharata. Dasaratha’s wife said, “You should let Bharata be king.”
Page 3
Dasaratha’s wife said, “You should banish Rama to the forest with his wife, Sita, and his brother, Laksmana.” The king was surprised, but he agreed to do that.

In the forest, a female demon fell in love with Rama. She tried to make him love her, but Rama loved Sita. Rama resisted the demon’s love magic.
Page 5
The demon was angry, and she ran to her brother’s castle. She told her brother, Ravana, to kill Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana.
Page 6
Ravana went to kill the three people. But when he saw Sita, he fell in love. Ravana did not kill anyone, but he kidnapped Sita.
Page 7
Rama and Laksmana could not find Sita. But they met Haruman, the monkey king. He knew where Sita was, and he offered to help the men.
Page 8
Rama, Lakshmana, and Haruman’s army attacked Ravana’s castle. Rama killed Ravana, and he saved Sita. Rama, Sita, and Laksmana returned to their home.
Page 9
Because Sita had been kidnapped by a demon, people thought she was now evil. Rama knew that Sita was not evil, but he had to banish her anyway.
Page 10
Sita went to live in the forest again. There, she gave birth to Rama’s twin sons, Lava and Kusa. Many years later, they returned and happily met Rama.
