Long ago, the city of Krakow had very strong walls. It was the capital of Poland. The walls of Krakow had towers. On these towers, men could see very far. The men looked for enemies coming to attack Krakow.

The men in the towers had trumpets. If a man saw an enemy coming, he would play the trumpet very loudly. One day, a man saw many enemy soldiers coming. He began to play his trumpet. He played again and again.

The people of Krakow heard the trumpet. They got ready to fight the enemy. The enemy soldiers were riding horses. They were shooting arrows. Many enemy soldiers were trying to climb the walls of Krakow.

The people of Krakow were very brave. They fought the enemy all day. Finally, the enemy lost. They had to run away. Because of the man in the tower, the people saved the city of Krakow.

Some people went to the tower. They wanted to say “Thank you” to the man. But when they found him, he was dead. He had been shot with an arrow. If you go to Krakow, you can hear a trumpeter in a tower every day. The people of Krakow still remember their hero.
