Once upon a time, there was a girl named Cinderella. Her stepmother and stepsisters treated her very badly. They made her mop the floor, cook, and sweep the cinders in the fireplace every day. Cinderella’s stepsisters never worked.

One day, the Prince of the city invited everyone to the palace. But Cinderella could not go. Her stepmother told her to stay home and work. But Cinderella’s stepsisters wore beautiful dresses, and they went to the palace.

That evening, Cinderella sat in her room and cried. Then, a magical fairy appeared. The fairy said, "I will help you go to the ball, but we must hurry."

The Prince found the shoe. He told his guards, "Try this shoe on every young woman in the land. The one who it fits will be my wife." So, the guards went to every house in town, and every woman tried on the shoe.

Some feet were too big, others were too small. Some were too wide, others too narrow. The last house in the city was Cinderella’s house. And when Cinderella tried the shoe on, it was a perfect fit!
