Long ago, there was a town. Near the town, there was a big willow tree. Everyone loved the tree, and the town was a happy place.

Children played in the tree. Tired people rested under the tree. People sat with their friends and talked. The willow tree was a special place in the town.

One day, the town leaders said, “We want to make a bridge. We will cut down the willow tree.” Many people were sad. But only one person, a farmer, said “No!”

The farmer saved the willow tree. The next day, a beautiful woman appeared under the tree. The farmer met her, and they fell in love.

The farmer married the woman, and they had a son. They lived very happily together for six years.

Once again, the town leaders decided to cut down the tree. The emperor wanted the wood. The farmer tried to stop them again, but this time he failed.

One night, the farmer’s wife woke him up. Then, he heard the axes cutting the tree. His wife said, “I must go. I am the spirit of the willow tree.”
