Once upon a time, there was a donkey. He was old and weak, and he could not work anymore.

One day, the donkey decided to go to Bremen. He told his friends, “I will become a musician in Bremen.” He said goodbye, and started on his trip.

On the way, he saw a dog. The dog was also old and weak. The donkey said, “Come join me! We can be musicians together in Bremen.”

Then, the donkey and the dog saw an old cat. The cat was slow, and she could not catch any mice. The donkey said “Come with us to Bremen. We will sing, and we will have food.”

Next, the donkey, the dog, and the cat saw a rooster. The rooster said, “My owner wants to eat me!” The donkey said “Come join us! We will not eat you. We will sing together in Bremen.”

The four animals walked together. They found a house in the forest. Inside the house, there was a lot of food and gold. Then, the donkey saw some men inside the house.

The donkey said, “Let's sing for them. Maybe they give us some food.” So the dog jumped on the donkey’s back. And the cat climbed onto the dog’s back. And the rooster flew up to the cat’s back.

The animals sang together, but it sounded so bad! Their voice was so bad that the windows got broken. One of the men yelled, “Run away! It is a ghost!”

The animals were so surprised to see them run away. Then, they decided to enter the house and sing more for people inside the house.

There was nobody inside. The four animals realized that those men who ran away were actually thieves. The animals decided to stay in the house and protect it from thieves. They lived happily ever after.
