Once upon a time, there was a Prince. He lived in a beautiful castle, but he was lonely. The Prince wanted to get married.

The Prince’s mother was the Queen. She wanted the Prince to have a beautiful and smart wife. But the Prince did not like any of the princesses.

One night, there was a thunderstorm. It was raining very hard, and it was dangerous. There was lightning!

There was a knock on the castle door. A girl was there. She looked very poor, but she was kind and polite. She asked the guard, “May I sleep here tonight, please? I am very cold and wet.”

The Queen said, "Only royal people can enter." The girl said, "Oh, I am a Princess. A Witch took me from my castle far away. I escaped from the Witch and I came here." The Queen did not believe the story, but she thought it was interesting.

The Queen said, “You may sleep here tonight.” And the Queen made a bed with 10 mattresses. She put a pea under the bottom mattress. “If she is a princess, her skin is very soft. This pea will make her uncomfortable.” said the Queen.

The Queen took the girl to the room. The girl said, “Thank you for helping me tonight.” Then, the girl went to bed.

The next morning, the Queen, the Prince, and the girl had breakfast together. The Queen asked the girl, “Did you sleep well?” She said, “I am sorry, but no. I slept badly. There was a bump in the bed, so I could not sleep well.”

Then, the Queen said, “You really are a Princess! You could not sleep well because I put a pea under the bottom mattress.” Everybody was very happy because the Prince loved the Princess. And the Princess loved the Prince.

Soon, the Prince and the Princess got married. And they lived happily ever after.
