The boy was very poor, so he accepted the merchant’s offer. He put the jar of oil on his head. The merchant and the boy walked to the market together. The boy was happy to get two copper coins. He thought, “With one copper coin, I can buy food for my family.”

The boy thought, “I will buy two chickens with the other copper coin. The chickens will lay eggs. Then, I will have a lot of chickens.” The boy thought, “I will sell the chickens and the eggs. Then, I will buy goats. The goats will have many kids and make milk. I will sell the goats and the milk.”

The boy thought, “I will buy cows, and I will buy buffaloes. I will become rich, and I will marry a beautiful woman. The boy thought, “My wife will ask me if I love her, and I will say yes.” Then, the boy nodded his head and he dropped the oil. The jar broke, and the oil spilled into the dirt on the road.

The merchant was angry. He said, “I was going to sell that oil for 3 silver coins. Now, I have no oil, and I have no jar to carry it in! You have to pay me for the oil that you dropped.” The boy said, “I cannot pay. I have lost my chickens, my goats, my cows, my buffaloes, and my wife!”
