Once upon a time, there was a girl. The girl’s parents died when she was very young. She had to go and live with her aunt.

The girl’s aunt was very mean to the girl. She made the girl do all of the housework. The girl was very tired and sad all the time.

One day, the aunt gave a pitcher to the girl. She said, “Go to the well to get water.” As the girl went to the well, she tripped. She dropped the pitcher into the well!

Because the girl lost the pitcher in the well, she was very worried. Her aunt would be angry. The girl sat down, and she cried.

Suddenly, a friendly old woman appeared. The woman said, “I know why you are sad, and I will help you.” The woman snapped her fingers, and a magic pitcher jumped out of the well!

The woman said, “You do not have any friends in this lonely place. And your aunt is very mean to you. So, this magic pitcher will be your friend.”

The magic pitcher did a funny dance, and the girl laughed. The girl and the magic pitcher played together at the well for a long time. They were very happy.
Page 8
The girl remembered her aunt. She said, “Oh, no! We have been here for a long time. We have to go!” The magic pitcher smiled, and it filled itself with water.

When the girl returned, her aunt said, “That was very fast! Give me the water!” The girl thought, “Oh! Time does not move when I play with the magic pitcher.”

The next day, the girl's aunt went to town. The girl and the magic pitcher did the housework together. Then, they played for many hours. They remained friends for the rest of the girl’s life.
