Once, there were two frogs. They lived in Japan. One frog lived in Kyoto, and the other frog lived in Osaka. One day, the Kyoto frog said, “I want to take a trip. I will hop to Osaka.”

That same day, the Osaka frog said, “I want to take a trip. I will hop to Kyoto.” Both frogs began their trips. They hopped and hopped and hopped. If you are a frog, Kyoto and Osaka are very far apart.

Between Kyoto and Osaka, there is a tall mountain. Both frogs hopped to the top of the mountain. That is where they met. The Kyoto frog said, “I am hopping to Osaka, but it is very far from Kyoto.” And the Osaka frog said, “Yes. I am hopping to Kyoto, but it is very far from Osaka.

The Kyoto frog said, “On this mountain, I think I can see Osaka. I will stand up and hold my head high.” So the Kyoto frog did that. And the Osaka frog did the same thing. The Kyoto frog said, “Well! Osaka looks just like Kyoto. So I will go home.” And the Osaka frog said, “Yes, and Kyoto looks just like Osaka. I will go home too.”

Of course, Kyoto and Osaka are very different. But the silly frogs forgot that their eyes were on the tops of their heads. When they held their heads high, they both looked backwards. They were looking at their own towns!
