Once upon a time, there was a boy named Little Thumb. He was called Little Thumb because he was very small.

Little Thumb’s parents were very poor. One day, the father said to the mother, “We do not have enough money. And we do not have enough food.”

The father said to the mother, “Tomorrow, I will take Little Thumb to the forest. Maybe he can find enough food for himself.”

The next day, the father took Little Thumb to the forest, and he left Little Thumb there. Little Thumb was afraid, and he went looking for food. Soon, he found a house.

Little Thumb knocked on the door, and an ogre woman answered. The ogre woman said, “You must run away. If my husband catches you, he will eat you.”

Little Thumb ran away, and the ogre husband began to chase him. Little Thumb heard the ogre woman laughing. Soon, Little Thumb found a rock, and he hid under it.

The ogre husband sat on the rock to rest. Soon, he fell asleep. Little Thumb had an idea.

Little Thumb ran back to the ogre’s house. He said to the ogre woman, “Thieves have caught your ogre husband. They want all of your gold. I will take it to them.”

The ogre woman gathered all of the gold in the house. She gave the gold to Little Thumb, and he ran away as fast as he could. He said, “Your husband will come back soon!”

Of course, there were no thieves. Little Thumb made the story up to trick the evil ogres. He took the gold home to his mother and father, and they lived happily ever after.
