Once upon a time, there was an old man. He was very friendly, and everybody liked him. But everybody thought he was a little bit strange.
Page 2
The old man never married, and he did not have children. This was strange because everybody was a farmer, and farmers have big families. In big families, people work together.

Every afternoon, the old man walked into the forest. Sometimes he took water with him. Sometimes he took food. Nobody knew what the old man did in the forest.
Page 4
One day, the old man became very sick. Everybody was worried because they all liked the old man. The old man’s sister came to visit him.
Page 5
The old man spoke to his sister. Though he was sick and weak, he smiled. He said, “I have tried to be a good man. And I have many friends. I will miss you, but I have to go now.”
Page 6
The old man went to sleep. His sister sat by his bed. Soon, she saw a white butterfly in the room. The butterfly landed on the old man’s pillow.
Page 7
The white butterfly seemed to be whispering in the old man’s ear. The old man smiled once, and then he peacefully died. The butterfly flew out the window.
Page 8
The old man’s sister followed the white butterfly. The butterfly flew into the forest, where the old man used to go every afternoon.
Page 9
The white butterfly flew into the forest. The old man’s sister followed. They came to a grave. The butterfly landed on the grave. Then, it flew into the sky and disappeared.
Page 10
The grave was for the old man’s childhood love; she died when they were young. He came to her grave every day. The white butterfly was her spirit, who came to say goodbye to him.
