Irish Mommy & Turkish Daddy

Hello! I am Adam. I was born in the United States. I live with my mam and my dad. We are an international family.
Page 2
Mam is from Ireland, that’s why I call her ‘mam’ and not ‘mom’. Dad is from Turkey. That makes things very different and very interesting!

We eat different kinds of food. Mom likes salmon, cheddar cheese and potatoes.
Page 4
Dad likes to eat kebabs, olives and yogurt.
Page 5
Mam loves a special ice-cream that has a big piece of chocolate in it. YUM!
Page 6
Dad loves ‘simit’ which is like a big, salty pretzel. Double YUM!

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland so we always celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Mam wears green, lots of green, green from head to toe. And, she wears a shamrock on her dress. The shamrock is the national flower of Ireland.
Page 8
We also celebrate Bayram, traditional national holiday or festival times in Turkey. Kids eat lots of candy and people give us money! It’s great. Oh, and do you know the national flower of Turkey? It’s the tulip.

My mam loves music. She plays a traditional Irish drum called a bodhran. A bodhran is round and you play it with a stick called a cipin.
