The Hare And The Lion
Page 1
Once upon a time, there was a Lion that wanted to catch a Hare. But the Hare was too quick and too smart. The Lion never caught the Hare, and he always went hungry.

One day, the Lion said, “I will hide inside the Hare’s house. When he comes home, I will catch him and eat him.” Then, the Lion said, “Ha! I am smart, too!”

The Lion found the Hare’s house. He hid behind a tree, and he waited for the Hare to come outside.

Finally, the Hare came outside. He walked down the path. He came very close to the Lion, but he did not see the Lion’s hiding place.

The Lion said, “I am very smart! I could have jumped out and eaten the Hare. But if I had done that, my plan would not have worked.”

When the Hare was out of sight, the Lion went into the house and hid. He was very happy and proud because he was very smart.

When the Hare came home, he saw the Lion’s footprints. He knew the Lion was inside his house. The Hare called, “Ho, Lion! You are inside my house!” The Lion did not speak.
Page 8
Then, the Hare said, “House, House! Is the Lion inside? Why do you not speak to me today? Please, House. Please speak to me, like you always do.”
Page 9
The Lion was surprised! He did not know that the Hare’s house could speak. But because the Lion was smart, he said, “My friend, Hare. I am your House. There is no Lion here!”
Page 10
Then, the Hare said, “Silly, Lion! Houses cannot talk!” The angry Lion jumped out, and he chased the Hare. But the Hare was too smart and quick. The Lion went hungry, again.
