One time, a hunter made a trap, and he caught a little bird. The bird said, “I am not a good catch. My feathers are not pretty. My song is not beautiful. And I am too small to eat.”
Page 2
The hunter said, “You are small, but you will make a nice snack.” Then, the bird said, “I can teach you three lessons to make you wise. If you set me free, I will teach you.”
Page 3
The hunter set the bird free. The bird said, “Here are your three lessons. Do not believe everything you hear. Do not try impossible things. Do not let the past make you sad.”
Page 4
The hunter said, “These lessons are not wise. Everybody knows these things!” Then, the bird laughed. It said, “Well, did you know that inside me is a diamond? It is as big as a cat!”
Page 5
The hunter was surprised! He should not have let the little bird go. He quickly began to build another trap.
Page 6
The bird asked, “Why are you building another trap?” The hunter said, “I will catch you again, and I will take the diamond from you!”
Page 7
The bird laughed at the hunter. It said, “Look at me. I am very small. I cannot have a diamond as big as a cat inside me. Why did you believe me?”
Page 8
Then, the bird said, “Now, you are building a trap. It is the same trap that caught me before. I will never be caught by it again. Why are you doing an impossible thing?”
Page 9
Then, the bird said, “You thought that it was a mistake to set me free. You became sad and angry. Why did you let the past make you sad?”
Page 10
Then, the little bird flew away. The hunter thought about his lesson. Then, he smiled and walked away happily. He had become a wiser man.
