Once upon a time, there was a farmer. He worked on the land that belonged to an evil king.
Page 2
The farmer had a small family; he had a wife, a strong son, and a beautiful daughter. Everybody worked very hard, but they were still very poor.

The evil king wanted to marry the farmer’s beautiful daughter, but she said no. She did not want to marry the evil king.
Page 4
The evil king became very angry, and he made the farmer’s family work harder and harder. But still, the farmer’s family was very poor because the evil king took everything.
Page 5
One day, the farmer said, “We will move away from here. Then, maybe we will have good luck.” So the farmer and his family began to pack their things to move.

Suddenly, a small and scary girl appeared. She crawled out from under the floor. She was all gray, and very skinny and weak.
Page 7
This small girl said, “I am Bad Luck, and I will follow you wherever you go. I am part of your family.” The farmer was worried because he wanted to escape from Bad Luck.

The farmer had an idea. He said to Bad Luck, “Because you are part of my family, you must help us move. Come with me, and help me carry a big log.”

The farmer lifted the log. Bad Luck put her hand under it. Then, the farmer dropped the log on her hand. Bad Luck was trapped! The farmer’s family escaped and left Bad Luck there.

In another town, the farmer had good luck. He became rich! And the evil king found Bad Luck, and he saved her from the log. Because he saved her, Bad Luck stayed with him forever.
