Once, there was a miller. He liked to brag. One day, he met a king. He told the king, “My daughter can turn straw into gold!” Of course, the miller was lying.

The king said, “Bring your daughter to my castle. If she can turn straw into gold, I will marry her.” The next day, the miller and his daughter went to the castle.

The king took the miller’s daughter to a room. There was straw in the room. The king said, “If you can turn this straw into gold, I will marry you.”

The miller’s daughter started to cry. Then, a small, strange man appeared. He said, “I can turn this straw to gold. If you give your first child to me, I will help you.”

The miller’s daughter said, “I will give you my first child. Please help me!” Then, the little man began to work.

The next morning, the king came into the room. He was surprised because all the straw had been turned into gold!

The king married the miller’s daughter. She was a queen! The next year, she had a baby. Then, the little man came! He said “The baby is mine!”
