Once upon a time, there were two brothers. They were twins, so they looked the same. Their names were Tan and Lang. Tan means older, and Lang means younger. They lived with their teacher. His name was Chu Chu. He had a beautiful daughter.

When Tan was older, he married his teacher’s daughter. Lang was sad because he could not spend time with his brother. One day, Lang went away because he was so sad. He walked to a lake. He died there, and he turned into a stone.

Tan missed his brother. He went to look or Lang. When Tan reached the stone, he was very tired. He died and became an Areca tree. Tan’s wife went to look for Tan and Lang. She found the stone and the tree. She was very tired and sad. She died and became a Betel plant.

The local people knew the sad story. They built a small shrine near the stone, The King took a nut from the Areca tree, and a leaf from the Betel plant. He mixed them with a piece of the stone.

The nut, the leaf and the stone made a red juice. The King drank the juice. It was delicious! The King said, “This juice should be at every wedding.” That is why you see Betel leaved and Areca nuts at weddings in Vietnam.
