Long ago, a cat was sleeping on the floor of a house. A woman was in the room. She was using a spinning wheel. Suddenly, the wheel went BANG and scared the cat.

The cat ran out of the house. The dog saw him, and asked, “Why are you running, cat?” The cat said, “It is the end of the world! I heard it! Run with me!”

The cat and the dog ran past the barn. The dog called out to the rooster. The dog said, “It is the end of the world! The cat heard it! Run with us!”
Page 4
The cat, the dog, and the rooster ran all day. That evening, they sat in the forest at the edge of a town. They saw the king, and they heard him speak to the people.

The king said to the people, “A bird stole my ring, and it went to its nest in the top of that tree. Whoever brings my ring back will get three bags of gold.”
Page 6
The animals looked up into the tall tree. At the top was a bird’s nest. The cat said, “I will climb up to the top of the tree and get the ring. Then, we can share the reward!”

The cat climbed up to the top of the tree. He got the ring, and he climbed back down. He said, “Now, we must take it to the king. But I am tired from running all day.”
