The girl became very selfish and vain. She loved to look at her reflection. And she loved to brush her beautiful, black hair. One afternoon, the girl was sitting by a river. She was looking at her reflection in the water.

The Chief of the Crabs noticed the girl’s beautiful face. He came out of the water. He wanted to tell the girl that he thought she was beautiful. The girl saw the Chief of the Crabs. She thought he was ugly, and she did not want him to speak to her. She threw rocks at him.

The Chief of the Crabs became angry. He scratched the sides of the girl’s face, and he said, “You will become a fish!” So the beautiful girl became a fish. She thought she was ugly, and she never looked at her reflection again.
