Long ago, there was a tree. The tree was hollow, and it was haunted by a kinyamkela, a child spirit. To keep the kinyamkela happy and peaceful, people sometimes left bananas at the tree.

One time, two boys came to the tree. They did not know that a kinyamkela lived there. The boys saw the bananas, and they ate them! After eating the bananas, the boys walked back to their village.

That night, the two boys went to the big hut where all the young boys slept. While the two boys were sleeping, they heard a voice. The voice said, “You ate my bananas! You will die soon!”

Suddenly, the boys saw the kinyamkela! Then, they began to be hit by rocks, dirt, and bones! The boys got scared, and they ran to another hut. But still, the rocks, dirt, and bones were hitting them.

The next morning, the boys were badly bruised. The chief of the village sent a messenger to call for the wizard. But the wizard’s village was far away, so the boys had to wait five days.

Every night, the kinyamkela came to the village, and he threw things at the boys. The people in the village began to worry because they could not help the boys. Nobody else saw the kinyamkela, but the boys’ injuries were getting worse!

On the fifth day, the wizard finally arrived. He asked the boys, “Why is the kinyamkela angry at you?” The boys did not know why. One boy said, “The kinyamkela just appeared one night, and he began throwing things at us.”
