Long ago, there was a god named Susano-o. But he could not live in Heaven. He had killed his sister’s maids, and he burned her rice fields.

Susano-o’s sister was named Amaterasu. She was angry at Susano-o. She made him live on Earth.

On Earth, Susano-o met an old man. The old man was very sad. Susano-o asked the old man, “Why are you sad?”

The old man said, “There is a giant snake. It has eight heads. The snake has eaten seven of my daughters. I think it will eat my last daughter soon.”

Susano-o said to the old man, “I will kill the giant snake.”

Susano-o and the old man made a big wall. The wall had eight gates. Behind each gate, Susano-o put a big bucket. Each bucket was filled with rice wine.

At last, the giant snake came. It put its heads through the eight gates. Then, it drank the rice wine.
