The Monkey And The Farmer
Page 1
One morning, a Farmer went into his garden. But some of his corn was gone! Then, the Farmer saw a Monkey in a tree. The Monkey was eating the Farmer’s corn. The Farmer said, “I will make a trap for that Monkey.” That night, the Farmer made a scarecrow. He put the scarecrow in his garden.

Of course, Monkeys are clever; a scarecrow will not scare a Monkey. But the Farmer knew that Monkeys are also curious. The Farmer covered the scarecrow with very sticky wax. Then, the Farmer went to sleep.

Early the next morning, the Monkey sneaked into the Farmer’s garden. He started to steal some corn, but he suddenly stopped. He saw the scarecrow! The Monkey went to the scarecrow. He said, “That stupid Farmer. He thinks a scarecrow will scare me. Ha! I’m too clever for that!” Then, the Monkey slapped the scarecrow.

The Monkey’s hand got stuck! He pulled and pulled, but he was not strong enough to free himself. So, he pushed the scarecrow with his other hand. And it got stuck! When both of the Monkey’s hands got stuck, He got angry and he kicked the scarecrow. And his foot got stuck! And that is when the Farmer came out of his house.

The Monkey was afraid. But the Farmer said, “I will not kill you. I will free you. Also, I will give you two pieces of corn every day.” Then, the Farmer washed the wax off of the Monkey. The Monkey said, “Thank you for your kindness. I will never steal from you again. And I will help you whenever I can.”
