Many years ago, there was a merchant who sold oil. In his shop, he had a parrot. His parrot talked a lot, and it said funny things. The merchant loved his parrot.

One day while the merchant was away, the parrot was resting on her perch. Suddenly, with a loud noise, a mouse ran into the shop. It was being chased by a cat!

The parrot was scared by the noise and the action. The cat chased the mouse here and there around the shop. The parrot flew around wildly because she was so scared.

The parrot crashed into jars of oil, and she broke pots and plates. The cat and the mouse were breaking things, too! Finally, the mouse ran out, and the cat followed it.

The merchant’s shop was a mess! There were broken jars and pots and plates. Oil was spilled everywhere. The merchant’s clothes were torn.

When the merchant saw his shop, he got very angry. Even though he did not know the whole story, he hit is poor parrot. He knocked all of her feathers out of her head.

From that time, the parrot did not speak. She only sat on her perch and pouted. She was still angry because the man had hit her and made her bald.
