Once, there was a farmer, but he had bad luck. His family had no food and no money. His son said, “I will go to Heaven and talk to the Jade Dragon.”

The son walked for many years, but he did not find the gate to Heaven. But one day, he found a house. He went to the house because he was tired.

A young woman owned the house. She said, “I married three times, but my husbands died.” The son said, “When I meet the Jade Dragon, I will ask why.”

The next day, the son went to an island. He saw a giant snake. The son said to the snake, “I must go to Heaven. Do you know where the gate to Heaven is?”

The snake said, “I can make the gate to Heaven. But I cannot go. I cannot become a dragon” The son said, “When I meet the Jade Dragon, I will ask why.”

The snake made the gate to Heaven. The son went in, and he met the Jade Dragon. The son asked the Jade Dragon, “Why is my family unlucky?”

The Jade Dragon said, “Farming is not your family’s fate.” The son said, “What is my family’s fate?” The Jade Dragon said, “I cannot say.”

Then, the son asked, “Why do the woman’s husbands die?” The Jade Dragon said, “Because she must marry a man with a magic jewel.”

The son asked, “Why can the snake not become a dragon?” The Jade Dragon said, “Because he has two magic jewels. Dragons can have only one.”

The son went to the snake, and the snake gave him one magic jewel. The son went to the woman, and he married her. And from then on, his family was lucky.
