Long ago, there was a woman who got very sick. She was worried because there was no one to help her. She wanted a fire to make her warm. So, she called out, “I wish the Thunder would come from Heaven and make a fire for me!”

Suddenly, the woman saw a flash of lightning, and Thunder appeared. He touched his fingers to some wood, and a fire blazed. Thunder said to the woman, “Now, you must give something to me. Someday, you will have a daughter. I will come to marry her.”

The woman soon got well. One day, she married a strong young man. They had a daughter, and they named her Miseke. Miseke grew up to be a beautiful and intelligent young woman.

One day, Miseke went out to gather clay to make a pot. Although it had been a bright, sunny day, the sky suddenly became dark and cloudy. Then, there was a flash of lightning, and Thunder appeared!

Thunder took Miseke to Heaven, and she became his wife. Thunder and Miseke were very happy together, and they had three children -- two boys and a girl. Miseke said to Thunder, “I want to take our children to meet my parents.”

Miseke and her children traveled from Heaven. Eight guards carried them as they sat on a big blanket. Miseke said to the guards, “Stay on the wide road. Do not go onto the small road because an ogre lives there.” Then, Miseke went to sleep.

While Miseke slept, the guards made a wrong turn, and they were on the small road. Suddenly, an ogre appeared. He grabbed Miseke’s oldest son and ate him! Miseke told her younger son to run to her father’s house. She said, “My father will help us. Go!”
