In a land far away, there was an old castle. Nobody lived in the castle, because it was haunted by a witch. Nobody in the town even wanted to go there.

Bad things often happened to the people in the town. Sometimes, the children would disappear. Many people had bad luck. One day, a brave soldier came to the town.

The soldier said to the people, “I want to help you get rid of the witch. I will go to the castle. I will stay there until the witch is gone!”

The soldier went into the castle. Everything inside was broken and old. Sometimes, the soldier heard BUMP! And sometimes he heard the floor creak.

The soldier went into the kitchen, and he started a fire. He put butter in the frying pan, and the butter began to melt. Then, a cat walked into the kitchen.

The soldier was stirring something in a bowl. The cat asked, “What are you doing?” The soldier said, “I am making pancakes.” Then, he continued stirring.

Other cats came into the kitchen. They watched the soldier as he stirred. The soldier kept stirring and stirring. Soon, there were 13 cats in the kitchen.
